Say Cheese in Linux is easier than in Windows

I happen to feel a bit bored reading all my previous homework for Statistics so I decided (actually Ami did) to play with some pictures on our laptop webcams. We struggled for a while trying to find the feature similar to OS X Photobooth in Vista. No luck. I googled a bit and found out that I can use Cheese in my Ubuntu. This application allows me to take pictures and apply a bunch of funny effects on it. We had a blast.

I notice that Linux apps are getting cleaner and better. The UI of Cheese is simple, unclutter and fits well with the desktop. It allows me to work on those shots with external apps as well. Kudos to Cheese developers.

Here are some pix that we took.

Click the movie

I watched Click (2006) again tonight and it struck me the same way that it struck me a year ago when I watched it in the cinema. My impression is still that Click is a good movie to watch; especially, if you are one of those people (PhD students) that caught up with your works all the time. The line that I will remember from the movie is : “Family comes first”. Often times, i got caught in my work in the lab and I will forget about other things that are more important. I wonder what is the metric to which I can adhere and strike a balance between work and home.

I would really recommend you watch Click if you haven’t. Granted, I like Adam Sandler and his movies. However, I am pretty sure that you will like this movie. Try to get through the corny jokes during the first half of the movie however.

First blog post after a long time

This is not my first blog post since I have started blogging for several years now. However, my life has been so busy that I barely had time to do anything other than working and trying to keep up with my classes. Yesterday, I upgraded my custom-built computer and I decided that I should start blogging again so as not to forget about what I really care in life.

I am currently an undergraduate researcher for the Computational Biomedicine Lab in University of Houston. I work mainly as an assistant to another PhD student. My work involves writing small scripts, maintain Linux servers, design posters and proof-read paper submission. I am hoping to continue my study after graduate as a PhD student.

If you are interested in my work, head on over to my portfolio.
